Joel Wiseman has served as Conductor of the Midland Concert Band since 2014. A dedicated music educator and performer, he is passionate about creating meaningful and enjoyable musical experiences for both musicians and audiences.
Joel teaches general music and band at Renaissance Public School Academy in Mount Pleasant, where he helps students of all ages discover the joy of making music. He also continues to serve with the 338th Army Band, where he has performed nationwide since 2006. As a trumpet player, Joel has appeared as a featured soloist with the Army Band, sharing his artistry with audiences while honoring fellow soldiers and veterans.
A graduate of Saginaw Valley State University, Joel brings together his love of teaching, performing, and conducting in every role he holds. Under his leadership, the Midland Concert Band continues its tradition of excellence while exploring new repertoire that excites players and inspires audiences.
Joel lives in Sanford with his wife, Shelly, and their son, William.
Matt Thomas lives in Midland with his family and has served as the Production Director for MCTV Network for the past eight years. He earned his degree in media production and broadcasting at Northern Michigan University, where he also met his wife while performing in the marching band. A lifelong musician, Matt has been playing trumpet since the age of ten and still loves the energy and joy of a great concert.

Hi - I’m your MCB Treasurer, Beth Thomas. I primarily play clarinet but also play alto sax, flute, trumpet, and oboe. I graduated from Northern Michigan University with a degree in economics. That’s where I met Matt Thomas, who plays trumpet. We have 3 kids, Marcus, Eli, and Isabelle “Ellie”. Matt and I have played in Negaunee City Band, Marquette City Band, and Chemical City Band. We have lived in Midland since 2017.
Angela Mrozinski-Kalcec is a lifelong musician and flute player with the Midland Concert Band. A former band director, Angela has spent her career teaching music and works in education at all levels. She now serves as Executive Director at eDynamic Learning. Angela remains passionate about creating meaningful learning experiences and continues to find joy in performing and connecting through music.
